Re: Accounts of mystical ecstasy in the literature of Christianity
In the grace of ecstasy, God suspends all self-consciousness, to reveal a divine knowing of God. Before exploring the features and implication of ecstasy, let us hear a description of it by St. Bernard of Clairvaux (1090-1113 ), borne of his own experience:
"Blessed and holy, I would say,
is he to whom it has been given
to experience such a thing
in this mortal life at rare intervals or even once,
and this suddenly and scarcely
for the space of a single moment."
"In a certain manner to lose yourself
as though you were not,
and to be utterly unconscious of yourself
and to be emptied
and, as it were, brought to nothing,
this pertains to heavenly intercourse..."

"In a certain manner to lose yourself

and to be emptied
and, as it were, brought to nothing,
this pertains to heavenly intercourse..."
Euphoric Bliss
This happened to me multiple times over 2 years and then stopped. I wasn't on drugs. I wasn't religious or had any specific beliefs other than being mildly interested in Buddhism. It propelled me to seek answers. Especially when it stopped.

Hi Rose, nice hear your voice on this site.
I don't know if you talk about your experience more, but I would like to hear more of these experiences, if you care to discuss it. Like: were you meditating in some way at the time? Or did it come out of the blue? What understanding came from the experience? Did it change you?
