Fascinating Thesis: "New Testament" was originally understood as "New Covenant" i.e., "Eucharist"
I find inspiring Dr. Scott Hahn's love of the Eucharist, and much of his writing devoted to It. Here is a video by him that I found fascinating. It implicitly asks this question:
What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you see the title, "New Testament"?
a. a text, namely the twenty seven books of the Bible
b. the Eucharist
What is it for you? a or b?
I surely would have chosen "a" before seeing Hahn's video. But the video affirms that, in its original First Century meaning, "New Testament" was literally identical to "New Covenant"-- and "new Covenant" was the proclamation of the Eucharistic meal, "This is my body...". The New Testament records only a single use of the phrase "new convenant" by Jesus-- at his Last Supper. He affirmed the New Covenant as he broke bread and lifted the cup of wine, in a rite now recapitulated as the Sacrament of Eucharist.
So really New Testament = New Covenant = Instituted as Sacrament of Eucharist
"The New Testament was a Covenant
before it was a document." -Scott Hahn
Only one section of the talk pertains to the above theme, so I recommend starting at 11:30
